Sighting Wheel
(1985)
Sighting Wheel was inspired by Stonehenge and other calendrical structures around the world. It is also reminiscent of the 19th century zoetrope, actually, a “zoetrope-in-reverse”. Rather than the structure, it’s the viewer who turns through 64 discreet views of the Niagara River and the environment of Art Park’s. Sighting Wheel was moved in 1986 to a pastoral hillside at Artfarm in Otego, NY, where it stayed until 2006. It was then moved to the back acres of Prout Hill Institute (PHI) outside Middletown, CT (see Aviary of Extinct Birds).
